How to Write a Resume That Gets Interviews

Published June 18, 2026

The 6-Second Rule

Recipients spend an average of 6 seconds scanning your resume. Here's how to make those seconds count.

1. Lead with Impact

Instead of "Responsible for social media," write "Grew Instagram following from 2K to 50K in 6 months."

2. Use the XYZ Formula

"Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]."

3. Tailor for Each Job

Generic resumes get generic results. Match keywords from the job description.

4. Keep It Clean

No fancy graphics. No columns. ATS systems can't read them.
